The inevitable has happened: You’re just about done with Netflix, thanks to isolation. Another 10-hour binge just isn’t as appealing as it used to be. Switch gears to some of these amazing short films, told by some of the most talented storytellers on the continent.

1. Sieko? (Why?)

Seiko is a coming-of-age story about a girl who is born in unfriendly circumstances. She has to figure out a way to fit in the society despite her world being filled with silence.

2. uNomalanga and the Witch

In this film by Palesa Shongwe, a church-going woman in a small South African town becomes obsessed with her hairdresser neighbour – a rumoured murderer.

Starring Director-Actor, Pascal Aka, Her First Time tells the story of a young lady who has to decide if she’s ready for her first sexual encounter, amidst pressure to give in to the man???s desire.

Painted Scars is an award-winning film about a suicidal man who meets a painter and is forced to learn what it takes to get out of misery.

5. The Independent State of Nandi

We follow the story of Nandi, who is taking her new Fiesta on its first long-distance trip, from Johannesburg to Amanzimtoti for her sister???s wedding. She???s bringing along her Sotho boyfriend Sechaba with the hopes of introducing him slowly to her traditional Zulu family, but will everything go as planned?

6. Tokunbo

If your car could talk, what stories would it tell? This emotional film tells the story of a couple, sharing the ups and downs of their relationship from the perspective of a car.??Get the tissues ready.

7. The Wanderer

Maria is the daughter of a South African police legend. Her modern beliefs are challenged when she is called to investigate a murder at a rural village where the killer is supposedly non-human.
