Artists from around the world are always looking to collaborate with Africans. We take a look at a few of the collaborations with African artists that have caught our ears in the last few years. Of late, African artists have been riding high in the international music market and it gives one a sense of joy to know that foreigners appreciate the sounds which emanate from our shores. Here are the major musicians doing their motherland proud and expanding the frontier of African music.
No. 6: Sarkodie ft. Ace Hood – New Guy
Off the extended version of his album ‘Bad Hair Extensions’ South Africa’s golden boy Nasty C teams up with international music star French Montana to deliver the ultimate vibe track ‘Allow’. No. 4: Diamond Platnumz ft. Ne-Yo – Marry You
Tanzanian award-winning singer, Diamond Platnumz joins Ne-Yo in a two-part harmony for this love song ‘Marry You’. The international collaboration is not a first for the singer as he has previously worked with Usher and French Montana. This melodic duet with a great video to match earns its place on our list!
No. 3: Major Lazer & DJ Maphorisa ft. Ice Prince, Nasty C, Jidenna & Patoranking – Particula
Off their ‘Know no Better” Ep, Major Lazer and DJ Maphorisa dish out the international star-studded hit track ‘Particular‘ which features South Africa’s Nasty C, Nigeria’s Ice Prince & Patoranking & International music star Jidenna. The video also features the heavyweight Afrobeat artists to make a huge musical impact.
No. 2: Wizkid ft. Future – Everytime
Nigeria’s Afrobeat superstar and starboy Wizkid teamed up with another international music star Future as they deliver this pleasant song, titled ‘Everytime’. The song was Produced by Shizzi and Wizkid keeps the flag high as he brought out another international hit.
No. 1: Davido ft. Young Thug & Rae Sremmurd – Pere
Davido shines in new tune “Pere” as he takes the lead on the brand new International tune which he features Rae Sremmurd & Young Thug. The Afrobeat star has had an impeccable year and this trap tune was a perfect mashup and collaboration that had us dancing!
