South African TV personality, actor and beauty entrepreneur, Minnie Dlamini is responding to the COVID-19 crisis in South Africa with a plan to help fight the spread, announcing her plans to include hand sanitisers in her MD By Minnie Dlamini beauty range. The product line, which was launched last year, currently produces body washes, lotions and soap bars.

Over the last couple of weeks, the MD Instagram page has been used to promote cleanliness and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, however the company’s leap to sanitiser production is the latest in their endeavours. In an interview with Sowetan Live, Dlamini says, “it is something that was in the pipeline as a way to grow and diversify the MD product offering.”
“With the emergence of the pandemic, we sought to steamroll the rollout of the sanitisers to help with prevention and further the efforts by government and other business to create access to them and promote hygiene. Our sanitisers have an alcohol base of 70%.”
While the new product will be made available for sale post-lockdown, it’s been revealed that the first batch of hand sanitisers will be distributed at no cost to underprivileged and underserved communities in South Africa (identified by the Red Cross), to assist with a shortage in supply.
