In past interviews, this belle has mentioned how she would have been a cosmetologist if she wasn’t an award-winning actress, and now she is starting to live both dreams. Last night, Black-American Actress, Taraji P. Henson, announced the launch of her hair-care line ‘TPH by Taraji’, the actress with this launch has emphasized on the importance of having healthy scalp as the first step to great hair grooming.

It is reported that the line has been in the works for the past 10 years with Taraji spending time concocting different formulas in her kitchen; the Empire actress in her launch video speaks on the goal of the brand as a means to ‘maintain healthy hair while wearing weaves, wigs or braids’, the products are dedicated to scalp cleansing, hair moisturising, hair repairing and styling.

TPH by Taraji will be launched officially on the 29th of January and are exclusive to Target stores, pricing ranges from $8.99 to $14.99.

The post THE MOST EFFECTIVE WAY PROTECT YOUR HAIR FROM DRYNESS AND DULLNESS, THIS HARMATTAN appeared first on SCHICK.

]]>
For West Africans (and people who live in the region), Harmattan season can be a welcome change, as the weather gets cooler and we have even more reason to snuggle up in front of the TV and drink endless cups of tea. But it can also wreak havoc (well, kind of) for our skin and hair. Lips crack, skin gets ashy and hair can suffer too, often losing its moisture and shine. However, it’s not all bad news, as there are effective ways to protect your mane from damage.

Celebrity hairstylist, Andre Walker, creator of Andre Walker Hair Classification System, says as black hair is constantly losing the moisture, the key is to keep it moisturised with water, so don’t be afraid to co-wash as often as you would in non-dry weather. Co-washing is the use of only a conditioner, which helps retain moisture and will still leave your hair clean and fresh. A spray bottle should also be kept close in dry times like these. Mix in water, leave-in conditioner and hair oil/moisturiser, and spritz on your hair throughout the day to keep it happy. Don’t forget to deep condition (whether or not it’s Harmattan) every week or so, to help lock in moisture and give your hair strength and shine.

If you have a protective hairstyle on, you’re also on the right track – your hair will be all the better for it. Cornrows, braids and even wigs are great for protecting your hair from over-manipulation and especially helps keep your ends from splitting; just ensure you’re moisturising daily. Also, if you have the option, have your hair regularly steamed. The great news is that you don’t have to cough out loads of money for a fancy salon treatment; you can do it at home (some helpful resources). Not only will a DIY steam hydrate your hair and scalp, it also encourages the circulation of blood, promoting hair growth.

It’s also extremely useful to increase your water intake during this season – protective hairstyle or not. The weather can leave you feeling thirsty very often and nursing a dry throat, but instead of opting for a soft drink, the recommended 8 glasses of water a day will keep you hair, skin and nails looking and feeling healthy. Naturally, eating the right sorts of things (think more spinach and apples, less leftover Christmas cake and croissants) will give your body the nutrients it needs to keep your hair healthy.

The post THINK PINK: WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE FOLLOWING THE PINK HAIR TREND appeared first on SCHICK.

]]>
From Cuppy, to Katy Perry, pink hair is bang-on-trend right now, and for a good reason – it’s so cute. Everyone is thinking pink! But before you dye your hair (natural or extensions) pink, or get rosé-coloured braids woven in, here’s what you ought to know first.

The process

As tempting as it is to purchase hair dye, click on a few YouTube tutorial videos, and DIY this pink hair job, don’t do it. Find a salon that specialises in hair-colouring, as the natural pigment in your hair often needs to be completely bleached and stripped before the pink dye is applied. (You want the best, right?)

The upkeep

You might not know this, but crayola shades tend to fade faster than more natural-looking hints. So, to maintain a sharp colour, avoid any conditioners or shampoos that contain sulfates, as they could strip the pink colour. Instead, swap your regular bottles for a colour-depositing conditioner and wash your hair with cold water, to avoid fading.

Also be aware that bleach often makes your hair thinner, easier to break, and knottier. Try to avoid frequent washes and excessive heat styling, as it adds to whatever damage your hair is already dealing with.

The after

Ensure to crosscheck with your HR manager(s) before heading to the salon to get that new look, will you? While if you work in a creative environment, a pink mane most likely won’t come across as too unusual, in the corporate world, it could be frowned upon. In that case, you could try to mix it up with a soft rose gold ombré instead.

Remember: it could take some time for the colour to come out completely. You might still see dull hints in your hair for the foreseeable future.

Truth be told, I find styling my 4C natural hair difficult; don’t know whether or not to tag my reluctance, length- underrating or downright laziness.

The only style that comes in handy is a ‘high puff’…easy yeah? I know! Reason for being my go-to natural hair updo… haha! Can’t count the number of creative kinky styles I have pulled off in my head, come on girls! I’m a badass naturalista in my world…I’d be ranking alongside ‘Game of Fros’ *I Wish, Lol.

The overall sprouting of afro textured extensions; clip-ins and wigs have made natural hair management way easier. Instant length and volume are the most common use of hair extensions. You can switch from short hair to long in a matter of minutes.

In the snap of a finger, you see an IG naturalista’s tousled hair transform to a sleek back pony-tail thanks to drawstrings and clip-ins.

Basically, apart from using the right hair styling tools; when handling your natural hair, perseverance is key because having yo’ own hands working on yo’ hair is clearly ‘Girl Power!’

I know most of y’all can relate to my struggle… for this reason, beloved SchickBeauties I present a curated list of laid-back hairstyles that can be executed on short/medium natural hair without having to visit the MANE stylist. Next time you are stuck trying to think up new ideas for your natural hair, try one of these simple Schick looks.
