WHAT EXACTLY IS VEGAN SKINCARE AND IS IT REALLY BETTER FOR YOUR SKIN? SKINCARE CEO, LUNA SETO BREAKS THIS BEAUTY MYTH DOWN

Just-emerged skincare brand, Luna Skins was created by Founder and Creative Director, Luna Seto. Having just launched in March 2021, the aim is to create a vegan-friendly skincare brand with all-natural ingredients, that’s genuinely kind to your skin. But is ‘vegan beauty’ a passing trend, made popular by Instagram and the likes of Kylie Jenner, or does your skin stand to benefit more from making the switch?

We sit down with Luna to discuss the origins of the brand and the challenges of building a company in today’s beauty industry.

Can you tell us a bit about what inspired you to create Luna Skincare, and how the journey has been so far?

I started making skincare products at home at the age of 14, as I am very passionate about natural ingredients. I experimented on weekends and during school holidays. My passion for home remedies and skincare has brought me to where I am today. Over the years, I continued making my own skincare products and sending them to friends and family. The dream became reality when I launched my very own vegan skincare range, which is an all-natural, plant-based range.

You incorporate Arabica coffee in your products. What benefits to the skin does it offer?

Arabica coffee is a source of nutrients and antioxidants, containing multiple benefits for the skin. The caffeine stimulates blood flow, which can help the skin to naturally tightens. Coffee also reduces inflammation and protects the skin against some strains of bacteria.

Also known for treating acne, breakouts, dead skin cells and clogged pores. It works wonders on the skin and our products are an example of this.

The vegan beauty industry is certainly gaining momentum, but tell us your personal reasons for launching a vegan product range.

The truth is: It is very important to feed our skin with non-toxic skincare and vegan skincare genuinely nourishes our skin. We are exposed to so much population when out and about, so why do more harm to your skin with non-natural additives? I feel veganism is growing and becoming part of normal life, and it’s something I feel strongly about especially within skincare.

Since starting a business, what have been the biggest hurdles and how have you overcome them?

As a new business owner, I did lots of research on other brands and read about their journey into the business. It was just the encouragement and motivation I needed to keep me going. I also keep a journal to track my progression!??

What distinguishes Luna Skincare from other natural organic skincare brands?

As the majority of our products are coffee-based, infused with Arabica coffee, this is what makes Luna Skincare stand out. Why Arabica coffee? Coffee has lots of health benefits for the skin and includes anti-aging properties. We grind our coffee beans ourselves and it takes a lot of time, but it’s worth it, as my aim is to produce the best quality skincare.

In your opinion, what makes Luna Skincare a must-have?

Our products are suitable for all skin types, safe for everyone to use, and better suited for sensitive skin.

What does your personal skincare routine look like?

I keep it simple. I exfoliate 3 times a week using the Cacao coffee face mask and I use Luna Vitamin C oil. Afterwards, I apply the Luna Shea Glow (whipped shea butter).

What are your long-term plans for the business?

In 5 years, the plan is to expand worldwide and be on everyone???s bathroom shelves!
