LIFE BEYOND VALENTINE’S: HOW TO KEEP THE ROMANCE ALIVE ALL YEAR ROUND

It???s so easy to get swept up in the razzmatazz of Valentine’s Day and go above and beyond for your S.O. this season, but what happens when cupid leaves the building? In a world that increasingly promotes less and less (actual) human interaction, it’s even easier to forget to do the little things that make our partners feel special, cared for and appreciated, but they make all the difference.

A little romance, a little laughter (and a lot of wine) makes for a happier couple. Here are a few simple things you could do more of to keep the spark alive.

Sweat it out as a pair

Used to going for a morning run on your own, or making solo trips to the gym? Working out with your partner can be beneficial for you both. Studies show that couples that exercise together are not only healthier, but also have a better relationship because they have a shared common goal.

Cook together

It doesn???t have to be a complicated three-course meal; cooking together can be fun for you and your partner, and even better, a great way to bond. With love as the main ingredient, who better to make and share a meal with than your special one? Couples who cook together stay together!

Plan regular getaways

It could be a weekend trip to a private resort nearby, or a second honeymoon somewhere exotic; simply getting away from the monotony and stress of your everyday lives might be just what you and your Significant Other need to get the romance flowing again.

Never stop laughing

There???s a reason experts say that a genuine friendship is the basis of a good relationship. There???s nothing better than having a partner and a friend who you can laugh with, all rolled into one. Try and spend even a few minutes a day relaxing and laughing together (keep the phones far, far away). Watch your favourite comedies on Netflix or tell your partner a funny story about your day.

Surprise them – often

Who wouldn’t love coming home to a little gift by their bedside, at the end of a long day, or a simple love note left on the bathroom mirror? Barton Goldsmith, Ph.D., a psychotherapist and author of??Emotional Fitness for Couples, strongly recommends surprising your partner regularly in small, thoughful ways, as they turn a regular day into a special one.
