IT’S OFFICIAL: UZO ADUBA WILL PLAY AUNTY UJU IN THE FILM ADAPTATION OF CHIMAMANDA’S ‘AMERICANAH’

Could it be that fans worldwide will love/enjoy Americanah the series more than the book? Producers are definitely doing their best to make that happen, especially when it comes to the casting for the film adaptation. Joining Lupita Nyong’o (who will play the novel’s protagonist, Ifemelu) and Zackary Momoh (Obinze) is Emmy Award winner and Orange is the New Black star, Uzo Aduba.

According to actor, Lupita, Aduba will be playing Aunty Uju, the protagonist’s cousin. In a tweet posted on December 18, Nyong’o wrote, “How I feel about @UzoAduba joining the #Americanah cast! She will play Aunt Uju. @ChimamandaReal @hbomax,” accompanied by a video of the pair dancing.

Americanah tells the story of a young love torn apart by migration and the search for greener pastures. It tackles deep-rooted ideas of race, class, nationality and socio-economic status.
