19-year-old sophomore Anok Yai is about to have her world turned upside down in the best way all because of a viral photo on Instagram. Last weekend, two photographs of the dark-skinned college student of Plymouth State University went viral on social media and have allowed her to fulfil her dream of becoming a model. A photographer (theSUNK), snapped a few images of her for his Instagram account, while she was attending Howard University’s popular homecoming festivities in Washington, D.C. The artist captioned it: ‘Saw her right at the end of Yardfest. Stunning @anokyai’, now the photos have been liked more than 11,000 times by Sunday!

Anok Yai grew up in Manchester, New Hampshire, the biochemistry student moved to the U.S. with her family from Egypt in 2000 and is of Sudanese heritage. She says she’s always been interested in fashion and art, but modelling was the dream. Her new followers began tagging numerous modelling agencies to give her a contract since the photos emerged, as a result, Yai heard from three modelling agencies. She has now been signed to NEXT Management worldwide, a top talent global modelling agency.

Speaking to the globe she expressed: “Honestly, I think that people get so used to seeing themselves that people don’t see their own beauty because they see it every day.”
