It has just been reported that Musician and Actress, Rihanna, has just donated $5million dollars through her Clara Lionel foundation towards a fight against the global pandemic, Coronavirus. It is not the first time the philanthropic entertainer has used her platform to fight towards a cause, she is known to lend her voice and resources to issues regarding education and response programs.
It is said the donation would help provide for food banks across multiple regions and countries, Direct Relief, and the World Health Organization’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund. It is also reported that her foundation would help serve at-risk communities, countries in Africa in need of more test kits as well as providing protective equipment for medical professionals presently researching ways to combat the virus.
Rihanna is one of many celebrities such as Kerby Jean-Raymond, Ciara and Rusell Wilson, Blake and Ryan Reynolds, who have used their platform and resources to contribute in numerous ways towards the global pandemic and its effects.
The Clara Lionel Foundation was founded in 2012 by Rihanna in honour of her grandparents. The foundation was created in order to fight for basic rights to education and health. Rihanna was recently presented with the President’s Award at the NAACP Image Awards for her role and contribution towards public service.
