SCHICK LIST: AFRICAN ALBUMS YOU SHOULD LISTEN TO

As a sucker for listening to music in albums rather than a shuffled playlist, my mornings are filled with heavy rotation from a chosen of my all-time favourite albums. We are further into the year from the beginning and artists would be dropping new projects; it would be interesting to reminisce on the albums that were released last year, have a quick listen. Here are a few exports from African artists

SEUN KUTI ??? BLACK TIMES

This 8 track album falls under the World Genre and was nominated at the Grammy Awards in the category of ???Best World Music???.

PETITE NOIR ??? LA MAISON NOIR

La Maison Noir is French for The Black House, the album is by South African artist Petite Noir, the 6 track LP according to the artiste???s website is a response to current cultural movements centred in Africa.

ZULI ??? TERMINAL

This 14 track album features Egyptian rapper Abyusif and is categorised in the genre of Dance/Electronic.

BRYMO ??? OSO

Brymo is a Nigerian singer that disrupts the norm with his creativity. Oso is his sixth studio album and has elements of mysticism.

BURNA BOY ??? OUTSIDE

This album boasts of top charting singles like Ye and Heaven???s gate, it was one of the biggest exports from Nigeria. The album also benefitted from the buzz of Kanye West???s album due to the name of his own album Ye.

HAILU MERGIA ??? LALA BELU

This is an Ethiopian Jazz popularly called Ethio-Jazz album with 6 lengthy tracks. The album is the first in fifteen years from the artist.

BAMBA PANA ??? POAA

Looking for a bit of East African music? This should be your go-to album.

MR EAZI ??? LAGOS TO LONDON

Mr Eazi with his albums tries to merge sounds from two cities that influence him, the sounds adopt musical styles from these cities, and this was the same with his previous album Accra to Lagos. The albums follow his journey around the world and how his sound is influenced.

MUTHONI DRUMMER QUEEN ??? SHE

From Kenya, Muthoni can be described as an alternative musician. The album falls under the Hip-Hop and rap category and is 12 track album.
