Abiola Adeniran-Olusola is the creative director and owner of eponymous brand “Abiola A. Olusola” – a contemporary womenswear brand founded in 2017, on the philosophy that dressing should be effortless and chic.
Adeniran-Olusola is a graduate of London College of Fashion, after which she proceeded to go to Paris to study Fashion Design at Istituto Marangoni, Milan for 3 years. At Istituto Marangoni, she interned at Givenchy, Lanvin and a few other notable brands. Her graduate collection was selected to be shown at Pitti Uomo Florence, Istituto Marangonis graduate show in Paris, Dominican Republic Fashion Week and Who is Next Paris. It was also featured on Vogue Italia.
After a few years in Paris, she decided to move back to Nigeria to start her own brand, Emi (which means ‘me’), the first official collection of my brand. “Emi is an Autumn/Winter collection inspired by contemporary African women like myself”, says Abiola.
“It is a retrospective collection that came together by putting my culture, experiences, travels, feelings, moods into forms shapes, colours and eventually garments. It is a statement about how individuals are a collective of various experiences and ultimately a part of something.”
This collection was locally made in Nigeria, byAdire makers in Abeokuta, Western Nigeria and the designer intentionally worked with local brands. “I was also inspired by the modern African woman who is constantly on the move; hence, the need for clothes that allow her function and look chic at the same time.”
