Today, the world’s most popular TV and film stars gathered in Los Angeles for the 75th Golden Globes. Amid the expected schmoozing, the red carpet at the year’s first award show features more noteworthy fashion statements than ever before.! As part of the “Time’s Up” movement, a number of actors and actresses came out in all-black outfits in solidarity with survivors of sexual assault and harassment, plus small black-and-white pins bearing the “Time’s Up” logo. In addition, eight actresses — Laura Dern, Amy Poehler, Susan Sarandon, Meryl Streep, Emma Stone, Emma Watson, Michelle Williams, and Shailene Woodley, led female activists, including #MeToo founder Tarana Burke and Billie Jean King, down the red carpet in lieu of escorts.

But no one took quite as forceful a stand as Oprah Winfrey, who became the first black woman ever to win the Cecil B DeMille lifetime achievement award and used her acceptance speech to give a searing rebuke of racial injustice, sexual abuse, and attacks on the integrity of the press.
