LOZA MALÉOMBHO SHOWCASES ‘DAHOMEY AMAZONS MEET AKAN WARRIORS’ AT THE ESSENCE FESTIVAL

The annual music festival is dedicated to celebrating African-American women, the event is usually attended by the notable personalities in Hollywood of African descent; the festival includes a variety of interests such as conferences, fashion and wellness exhibition among other things.

This year, at its 25th anniversary, Ivorian designer, Loza Maléombho showcased her Autumn/Winter 2019 collection ‘Dahomey Amazons meet Akan Warriors” to wrap up the inaugural activation. Loza has had a number of highs this year from showcasing at the Lagos Arise Fashion Week, to having Kelly Rowland wear one of her pieces from the collection.

“This collection was inspired by the Dahomey Amazons and the Akan (Asante) warriors of their respective empires. It’s a fantasy on cross-cultural pan-Africanism based on our shared history: I wanted to showcase matriarchy, strength and power transferred from our mother ancestors to the new generation.”
