KANYE WEST SIGNS MOWALOLA OGUNLESI AS DESIGN DIRECTOR

In a photo posted earlier this week to celebrate father’s day by Kim Kardashian West, Kim tagged Nigerian-British designer Mowalola Ogunlesi, leaving fans concluding she was the designer to the patent ensemble worn by her and husband, Kanye West. What we didn’t know is Mowalola had inked a deal with Kanye West for his current collaboration with American fashion retail brand, Gap.

The Gap brand has struggled recently with owning its market and has decided to collaborate with Kanye West to create a new clothing line Yeezy Gap, this line will be introduced in the first half of 2021 with the contract spanning 10 years and an option for renewal after 5 years. It looks like the retail company is hoping for a revenue as huge as the Yeezy Adidas collaboration.

Mowalola Ogunlesi became a designer to watch after her debut menswear collection Psychedelic hit the runway, it featured ‘the heavy materials of a roadside Lagos gas station mixed with tight leather garments’. Her design has been worn by top Hollywood names such as Drake and Solange, and for Barbie’s 60th anniversary, Ogunlesi was commissioned as one of the designers to style Barbie. Miss Ogunlesi also comes from a family heavily invested in fashion, her mum is Adenike Ogunlesi of Ruff ‘n’ Tumble, and her dad, co-founder of men’s fashion label, Sofisticat.
