For a while now, Disney has ventured into remaking most of its greatest creations into live action and it has been widely accepted by the audience; from Cinderella, Dumbo, Aladdin to Lion King and most recently The Little Mermaid. The purpose of this is to create a more realistic version from the already animated movies.
Originally released in 1989, the Disney original movie is rumoured to begin production in April 2020 with no release date announced. The production company has however announced its cast members and we are definitely as excited for this remake like the others that have been released.
Disney announced via its Instagram page that Halle Bailey has been cast as Ariel for the remake, which is a huge career leap for the half and younger of the ChloeXHalle music duo. Halle also stars alongside her sister in the freeform coming of age series Grown-ish; we are excited to see young women of colour get recognised in their chosen career fields internationally.
Some other members of the cast for the remake are Melissa McCarthy, Nora Lum and Jacob Tremblay.
