It’s been a great year for Cuppy, despite having to navigate life and work in the middle of a global pandemic. The artist and DJ became the first-ever African to host a radio show on Apple Music, released an album with chart-topping songs, was recently part of an exciting Manchester United campaign and so much more. To add to this chronicle of achievements, she’s just been named audio distribution platform, Soundcloud’s #FOSC – an abbreviation for ‘First on Soundcloud.’
This revered title is reserved for fast-rising artists from all over the world, which has previously highlighted artists like Kehlani, Peggy Gou and Little Simz. In an Instagram post, the music-sharing giant wrote, “Introducing #FOSC artist @cuppymusic. ?”
In an interview with Soundclud, Cuppy spoke about her success as an artist and making music in COVID-19 times. “Creating in isolation is a bittersweet experience,” she says. “A mix of slight loneliness but high productivity took up most of my days during the lockdown.”
She also opens up about her much-talked-about album, Original Copy. “My album certainly took a deeper and more meaningful direction and I learnt to listen to my own inner voice,” she says. “For the first time I could be Cuppy, the creative without any distractions.”
Cuppy took to Twitter to announce the news, writing, “Well, @SoundCloud just announced me the “Princess of Afrobeats”..Argue with your Ancestors lol #FOSC#ToCuppyThisTune“
