The series, coming this February, will be the first African Netflix Original TV show, fully produced with an all African cast and crew and shot in 37 different locations across Africa, including the Johannesburg CBD, Sandton, Park Station, Soweto, Lagos, Kenya, and Zanzibar. The action-packed, drama-filled series follows the life of Queen Sono (Pearl Thusi), a highly trained top spy in a South African agency whose purpose is to better the lives of African citizens. While taking on her most dangerous mission yet, she must also face changing relationships in her personal life and uncovering the truth about her mother’s past.
The six-episode television show will feature an all-local cast, including Abigail Kubeka, Vuyo Dabula, Sechaba Morojele and many others, directed by Kagiso & Tebego Kagiso Lediga and Tebogo Malope (Cannes Lions and SAFTA award winner).
Queen Sono will be available globally on February 28, 2020, at the same time in 190 countries across the world.
