Johannesburg based artiste Nelson Makamo makes use of his art to explore the innocence of children using portraiture; he says he is “particularly drawn to children in rural South Africa, he believes that they embody the peace and harmony we all strive for in life, the search for eternal joy lies in the child within us all, we are just so consumed with worldly things that we forget the simplicity of life through a child’s perspective”.

His art has recently been featured as a Time Magazine cover, for its “Optimist” issue and he discusses his inspiration and style.

For his medium, he makes use of Charcoal, Acrylic, Water Colour, Silk Screen, Mono-types and Oil Paint.
