Vlisco&co is a collaborative initiative, partnering the creative team of Vlisco from the Netherlands with young emerging creative talents from West Africa. This new platform enables artists to come together and share their expertise and ideas, with the aim of rethinking the future of Vlisco fabrics in the context of local creative industries. Vlisco&co has brought together creative talents from a variety of disciplines, such as filmmakers, fashion designers, illustrators, photographers and musicians.
For the Abidjan edition: Five creatives from Ivory Coast combine their talents to reveal the allure of Abidjan. They highlight the city’s opulent atmosphere and the elegance of the youth, turning a shared nostalgia for the ‘golden age’ into an exciting proposition for the future.
Kader Diaby’s collection is a projection of Ivory Coast in the near future, a future where Ivorians learn to value the golden heritage that has been bequeathed to them. This collection of Spencer, quilted jacket, quilted trousers, bustier and skirt is inspired by the architectural lines of this period and uses a mixture of Vlisco Wax Hollandais and organic linen, dyed by women in the commune of Treichvilein, Abidjan, Ivory Coast, and are decorated with buttons and bronze buckles made at the Grand- Bassam craft centre, Ivory Coast. The leather accessories are made in Treichville, Abidjan.
The collection showcased in the film is made by designer Rebecca Zoro (Yhebe design) and Kader Diaby (Olooh concept). Rebecca mixes Vlisco prints – each more diverse than the last – in a single outfit to afford the garment a sophisticated and opulent style. Her work here honours the creativity of a woman who dares to break the codes
